How do I change my avatar?

Open Account Settings and use the avatar management link. Hangout avatars are managed from the Hangout avatar and sound screen, where you can pick your avatar, stage name, color, and sound settings.

Your profile image and Hangout avatar are separate. Profile images represent you across profiles and comments; Hangout avatars appear inside the interactive rooms.
